OUR STORY
THE HABITAT MARKET
Celebrating Northern Ontario Art, Culture and People
ABOUT THE STORE
While our on-campus work focuses strictly on polar bears, our retail and online marketplace is a celebration of the art, culture, and life across Northern Ontario.
(Okay, yes, it’s a celebration of polar bears, too.)
We aim to showcase unique and handmade creations while providing Northern Ontario artisans and vendors a platform to proudly display and sell their products.
The result is a market unlike any other in the region. For patrons, vendors, and the Habitat, it’s a win-win-win.
ABOUT THE VENDORS
Our vendors live in Northern Ontario and/or have a special connection to the Canadian Polar Bear Habitat. Whether they are professional artisans or hobbyists, their work is of the highest quality.
Potential vendors submit an application to our Market Committee, which reviews applications at biannual intake periods.
We promote vendors who sell products that are local, handmade, and sustainable.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTS
Vendors must be the producer, creator, and/or designer of all work to be sold.
All products will be original to the artisan or must be a skilled rendering of a traditional or classic design.
For items with a resale value of $250 or less, the Habitat purchases stock up front from the vendor. Items valued at more than $250 are sold on a consignment basis. Besides packaging and delivery, there is no cost to vendors.
